France will require fashion brands to be transparent towards their customers and supply product information.

On 29 April 2022, the Decree no 2022-748 was published. It establishes “measures to promote transparency in the Fashion sector, particularly to inform consumer about dangerous substances and recyclable materials”.

So, what does this all mean for your brand? For each textile product sold in France, brands will have to inform their customers of:

  1. Whether or not the product is recyclable (according to the criteria established in the decree).

  2. Whether or not the textile product is dangerous.

  3. Whether or not the fabric is polluting, by adding this sentence to products made of fabrics of 50% polyester or more: “Releases plastic microfibres in the environment during washing”.

  4. The traceability of each item, stating in which country each step of the production was done, from spinning, weaving, dying and confection.

This information has to be supplied in an “immaterial form” (i.e. digitally), free of charge and leading to webpage with a file “regarding environmental qualities” for each individual product. This page should be online for at least 2 years.

Sounds like a lot of work to get organized? The French authorities understand and have given smaller companies (€10M+ revenue or yearly sales of 10,000+ articles) until 2025 to comply.

Quifactum already has the out-of-the-box tools to comply with legislation immediately and to leverage this for marketing and sales purposes. Want to learn more? Contact us at info@quifactum.com!
